Watercolor Painting

Instructor: Sona Atoian

Ms. Atoyan is an artist and art instructor. She has been the director of the Fresno Art Institute for over 30 years. She has taught art classes at Inspire One since 2016.  Sona graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Drafting from Terlemezian College and with a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts and Education from the Academy of Art in Armenian. She has exhibited her artwork in Armenia, Russia, Lebanon, France, and the United States. In addition, she has arranged numerous exhibitions of her students’ artwork at Fresno City Hall and the Armenian Museum of Fresno, as well as donated artwork to Children’s Hospital. Ms. Atoyan has volunteered her time to teach children who were patients at Children’s Hospital in Madera as well as children from the Exceptional Parents Unlimited program.  She teaches elementary through high school-aged students drawing and painting in watercolor, acrylic, and oil.

Class Descriptions

Drawing and Watercolor (all classes) – Students learn drawing, composition, and watercolor techniques. They will learn how to draw and paint animals, fish, still life, landscapes, and compositions. Students who are more experienced artists will receive more advanced instruction. Class sessions build on one another and are ongoing. As classes progress, art projects will be more advanced. After completing eight projects medium will be changed from watercolor to acrylic paints.

We are excited to again offer this class! A minimum number of students is required, so if you are interested, please contact Sona as soon as possible and let her know which time slot would be best for your student.

Supplies Required

Drawing and Watercolor (all classes) – Please bring the following:

• Watercolor Paint Set (16-color paint set by Prang)
• Watercolor Round Paint Brushes – Three brushes, sizes: #2, #5, & #10
• Pencil – HB Art Pencil
• Paper – Strathmore (brown cover) 12 Sheets, 18” x 24”, Watercolor Pad
• Eraser

*All of these can be purchased from Allard’s Art Store (Blackstone & Barstow). Ask for the art student discount of 10%.
